4. Pastor Changbin Passes Examining Council!

Our church family celebrates and congratulates Pastor Changbin on successfully presenting his testimony and statement of faith for the Examining Counsil for Ordination through CBAC on August 5. This milestone reflects years of dedication, study, and a heart committed to following God’s call.

We are so grateful for Pastor Changbin and his ministry here BSBC. He has rejuvenated the Chinese congregation and continues to bring people to Christ.

5. Celebration Sunday: August 30

This Sunday, August 30, our church family will gather for Celebration Sunday, a special time to honour and thank Rev. Kevin Culberson and Gloria Tranquilla as they step into retirement, and to celebrate those being baptized.

We will also be introducing Mark Archibald and welcoming him into this next chapter of leadership at BSBC.

During the service, we will recognize Kevin and Gloria for the many ways they have offered their gifts, time, and care to our church.

We will rejoice with those publicly committing their lives to Jesus through baptism.

We look forward to celebrating together, giving thanks, and acknowledging the many hands and hearts that make BSBC a place of worship, growth, and belonging.

6. BSBC Family, Fellowship, and Fun | August 30 | 1:00 PM | Wilmot Park Splash Pad

This summer, we invite you to join us for some BSBC family, fellowship, and fun! We love creating community with our church family.

On Sunday, August 30, we will gather again! Join us after the services at Wilmot Park Splash Pad at 1 pm! Bring your swimsuit, towel, sunscreen, sporting shoes, and a picnic lunch. We will have some lawn games like spike ball and frisbee but please feel free to bring a game of your choice as well.

7. Y'all Come Celebrating Gloria Tranquilla | September 2 | 6:00 pm

A Potluck Supper is being held in the Church Gym on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, at 6:00 pm.

All Sanctuary Choir members new and old - former and present are invited and encouraged to come out and bring your spouses, friends, or significant others along! We are starting our choir season off celebrating Gloria Tranquilla's many years serving the Lord as our choir accompanist/ church pianist and also her leadership in so many other ministries of our church. As Gloria completes her part-time staff position, we want all of our congregation to feel welcome to attend - so bring along your favourite dish, a main, salads, breads, or dessert AND join in the fellowship and thanksgiving for Gloria's ministry.

There will be a program with special music, memory sharing, and presentations.

Sanctuary Choir members will have a brief rehearsal at 5:30 pm on Wednesday, September 2 in the Choir room to prepare for Sunday, September 6.

8. New Service Structure Starts: September 6

Coming up this fall, we are introducing our Stacked Services Pilot Project on Sunday, September 6th. Our Traditional Service will be at 9:30 to 10:30 am. Connection time & Sunday School will be from 10:30 to 11:15 am. And our Contemporary Service will be from 11:15 am to 12:30 pm.

Children’s Ministry Changes

As the structure for worship services change, there will also be changes to Children’s Ministries on Sunday morning. During our new stacked service structure beginning September 6, there will be no childcare or children’s programming during the 9:30 am Traditional Service. A Kids’ Corner with activity packs will be available at the back of the sanctuary, and the nursery will remain open for parents with a livestream screen. Preschool and KidzTown will run during the 11:30 am Contemporary Service, with newborns to 2 years in the nursery and ages 2 to 4 in the new Farm Room. As we begin testing our updated preschool setup or any questions, please reach out to Pastor Nikki.

9. BSBC Brunch: September 6

Join us for a BSBC Family Brunch on Sunday, September 6, 2026, at 10:30 am. As we begin our new stacked service structure on September 6, we’re excited to share this special connection time.

This is a great chance to reconnect with your BSBC family, celebrate the start of a new season, and enjoy a simple spread of croissant sandwiches, yogurt, fruit, and donuts together.

Join us in the gym, between the services, for good food, conversation, and community as we launch into the next chapter in our Sunday rhythm.

As we prepare for our BSBC Brunch on September 6, we’re looking for volunteers to help make this time of fellowship run smoothly. 10. Sanctuary Choir 2026 – 2027 Start Up

Starting Wednesday September 9, weekly Sanctuary Choir Rehearsals will be held from 6:30pm to 8:00pm in the Choir Room under the direction of David Steeves, accompanist Leah Steeves. New members are welcome.

This is an intentional time for all those from pre-kindergarten to 18 years old to grow deeper in their understanding of the Bible. At the same time, we offer Coffee Time in the Gym for adults as part of our Connection Time between services.

The Women’s Missionary Society ladies are collecting used eyeglasses which will be sent out to the missions field. This is one of their fall missions projects.

14. Mailbox Refresh Coming Soon!

We’re getting ready to update and reorganize the labels on our church mailboxes to make them easier to use and ensure everything is accurate and up to date.

To help us prepare, please take a moment this week to stop by the Connection Center and clear out any mail currently in your mailbox. This will helps us reset the system; ensures labels are correct; and makes room for a fresh new layout.

The Sibomana Family are serving with Canadian Baptist Ministries (CBM) in Africa. André will be travelling to Canada while visiting churches. Please keep André, his wife, Thérèse, and their five children Princess, Aaron, Bella, Laura, Benitha as they navigate this season.

17. BSBC Summer Soccer Ministry | Last Session for the Summer | 6:30 to 8 pm

The grass is green, we have just enjoyed the FIFA World Cup, and most importantly, young people and their parents are still out and about playing soccer at Wilmot Park and Morrell Park!

Let’s join them! The group at Wilmot Park is open to boys and girls ages 6 to 8. The group at the soccer field at Morrell Park on Waterloo Row is open to boys and girls ages 11 to 13.

Today will be the last session held from 6:30 to 8:00 pm at both locations. Whether they have played soccer before or are trying it for the first time, they are welcome to take part. Players should come dressed in athletic clothing with running shoes or soccer cleats and bring a water bottle. A. Sunday Streets Muffin Ministry: September 6

On behalf of our brothers and sisters who make a weekly evening trek around the city to visit those sleeping rough, and the members of your Social Action Team, thank you ‘muffin makers’ for your faithfulness serving in this way. Your sweet generosity is more than just baked goods; it’s an expression of care and hope in Jesus’ name.

Our Street Ministry team need muffins as soon as September 6 for our Sunday night outreach program. As we prepare for the busy summer months, we aim to have 4 dozen muffins each week to ensure we’re well-stocked and ready to bless those we serve. If you are able to help in this way, please place 12 muffins, individually wrapped, in a large zipper locked bag, and label the bag “Street Ministry”. Don’t forget to include your name and the delivery date for which you signed up. You can place the labeled muffins in the upright freezer in the main kitchen.

At 10:45 am, our KidzTown and Preschool leaders will collect children from the sanctuary, stop at the Connections Centre to take attendance and lead them to their designated program areas. Preschool children will be taken to the nursery and children from Kindergarten to Grade 5 will be taken to the second floor for KidzTown Ministries during the church service (10:45 to 11:30 am). September 6: KidzTown and Preschool Change

Starting September 6, in our stacked service structure, Preschool and KidzTown will start at 11:30 am during the Contemporary Worship Service. We will not be offering children’s programming during the 9:30 am Traditional Worship Service. At the back of the sanctuary, there will be a kids’ corner which will include kids’ activity packs for use during the service. The nursery will be open for parents to use with their children, along with a livestreaming screen of the service. If you have any questions, please reach out to Pastor Nikki.

Preschool Changes Coming up! | Sunday, September 6 | 11:15 am

We are trying something new in our preschool program. Due to growing demands, we are splitting into two groups this fall! Those newborn to 2 years, continue to be in the nursery, while those 3 and 4 years will be in the new Farm Room in the preschool area. We will be testing this out and adjusting as we go. This Sunday, we will gather together for worship in the Sanctuary. The worship team will be led by Greg Keezer with special music from our Men’s Ensemble as well as David Steeves and Gloria Tranquilla. We look forward to seeing you for a hope-filled Celebration Sunday as we worship together.

This Sunday we will celebrate 4 baptisms, the culmination of Gloria Tranquilla and Rev. Kevin Culberson’s paid ministry, as well as the beginning of Rev. Mark Archibald’s ministry with BSBC.

Please find below the information that was shared at the Spring Business Meeting on June 10, 2026. Scott Myles, Chair of the Board of Deacons, shared some slides during his presentation on the Sunday Service Transition Plan.

Brunswick Street Baptist Church | Congregational Meeting | June 10
Purpose: share the structure, the heart behind the change, and how we will learn together during the pilot.

SLIDE 2 – The Why

Why We Are Making This Transition: The change is rooted in growth, stewardship, and mission.
- Accommodate growth: Make room for our church body while reducing pressure on a single Sunday morning service.
- Steward our sanctuary: Use our historic sanctuary well while giving each worship expression appropriate space and focus.
- Reach across generations: Protect both traditional and contemporary worship so each can thrive.
- Guiding principle: one church family, two worship expressions, one shared mission. Experience the Love of Jesus. Live it Out Everywhere.

SLIDE 3 – Schedule

The New Sunday Morning Schedule: A sequential model with an intentional shared connection hour at the center.
9:30 Traditional Service: Sanctuary – choir, soloists, liturgical elements
10:30 Shared Connection Time: 45 minutes – coffee, fellowship, library, transitions
11:15 Contemporary Service: Sanctuary – full band, modern worship elements.
The 45-minute break is not “dead space” – it is the centerpiece for connection and unity.

Our Core Values for the Pilot: The schedule matters, but the culture we build matters even more.
- Unity: 'We' over 'Us vs. Them' – The connection hour is designed to keep us together as one church family across worship styles and generations.
- Grace-filled pilot mindset – We will begin, observe, learn, and adjust. We do not expect every operational detail to be perfect on day one.
- Protecting volunteers – We will not rely on the same few people to do double the work. Teams should generally serve within their preferred service time.
Measure success not only by logistics, but by whether people feel welcomed, connected, and called together.

Connection Time: The Heart of the Morning – A planned ministry hour for hospitality, prayer, and cross-generational connection.
45 minutes: 10:30 to 11:15 am – A shared center point where traditional attendees can stay, contemporary attendees can arrive early, and families can transition smoothly. Hospitality makes the model work.
- Round tables and comfortable seating in the gym

- Coffee, refreshments, and a dedicated Hospitality Team

- Library access coordinated with children’s ministry flow

- Possible overflow or family-friendly viewing space

- Sunday School

Supporting Both Worship Expressions

- Traditional Service at 9:30 am: Choir, soloists, handbells, liturgical elements and our rich musical heritage in the sanctuary

- Contemporary Service at 11:15 am: Modern worship architecture, full band instrumentation, and contemporary creative elements.

- Permanent sanctuary setup: Contemporary instruments remain positioned in a low-profile, safe, visually appropriate way to reduce Sunday setup strain.

- Operation boundaries:

- Traditional service must conclude by 10:30 am

- Contemporary service should conclude by 12:30 pm

- Clear stage plot and cable safety are essential

- Ensembles like Kids Sing may need restructured practice schedules

SLIDE 8 – Families

Children’s Ministry and Family Flow: The experience of young families will be a key indicator of pilot success.

Pragmatic care approach: Leadership will evaluate childcare needs for the 9:30 am service over time without over-engineering an unsustainable model.

Clear transitions: Parents, teachers, and directors will need clear pick-up/drop-off paths and clock-watching protocols during the 45-minute break.

Pastoral care for little ones: Because the second service ends at 12:30 pm, simple healthy snacks in KidzTown can help support lunch and nap rhythms.

Design question for the pilot: Are families able to worship, connect, and move through the morning with clarity and ease?

SLIDE 9 – Operations

Operational Support: Making Sundays Work: Behind-the-scenes systems must adapt so the morning remains welcoming and secure.

Tellers and offerings: Current immediate counting after the final service is not workable for traditional-service tellers. Leadership should choose a secure model, with Monday morning counting strongly recommended to reduce Sunday stress.

Ushers and sanctuary flow: Each service needs a minimum usher team. The 10:30 am transition requires gracious clearing, wayfinding, bulletins, and seating preparation.

Secure planning: A secure alternate counting space may be needed if the current teller room is used for Sunday School. The gym should be intentionally arranged so it feels welcoming, not empty.

SLIDE 10 – Evaluation

How Will We Evaluate the Pilot: A defined pilot protects trust and gives us room to learn.
4–6 months – recommended pilot window with a predetermined evaluation date. Not open-ended. Not permanent without learning.

Key measures to monitor

- Volunteer health – sign-ups, absences, rotation frequency

- Attendance balance – sanctuary density and healthy participation

- Children’s ministry – teacher-to-child ratios and room usage

- Congregational feedback – monthly stakeholder check-ins plus digital and paper surveys

Timeline and Next Steps: What happens between this meeting and the Fall launch?
June 10: Congregational business meeting and shared discussion
