1. Canada Day – Church Office Closed: July 1

Wishing you a joyful and memorable celebration with family and friends!

Please note the church office will be open on Monday, June 30, and closed on Tuesday, July 1 for Canada Day. Regular office hours will resume on Wednesday, July 2 at 8:30 a.m.

All Tuesday programs will pause on July 1 and will resume on Tuesday, July 8.

2. WMS Celebrations

WMS enjoyed a lovely lunch together at the Ramada for their June gathering, celebrating a special milestone with Elaine Durling and Ruth McGuire as they received their Dominion Life Membership certificates and pins.

We invite all women to consider joining us when we meet again in September—all are welcome!

3. Sweet Support: Greener Village Sugar Donation

Have you heard about the Greener Village bread-making program?

Keith Ross delivered an astounding donation of 2,200 lbs of white sugar—enough to fill the entire bed of his pickup truck!

This generous gift will go a long way: it will be used in their Learning Kitchen for Bread Mondays, where volunteers help produce over 300 loaves of bread for clients each week. It will also support essential cooking skills classes, helping students and clients gain independence. Plus, volunteers in the warehouse will portion sugar into client grocery boxes, ensuring key pantry items are stocked.

We know not everyone can donate 2,200 lbs of sugar! But if Keith’s efforts have inspired you, consider picking up sugar or flour during sales or making a $40 donation—which covers the cost to produce 52 loaves of fresh bread:

Thank you, Keith, for making such a sweet impact on our community!

4. BSBC is Hiring: Administrative and Social Media Assistant

Brunswick Street Baptist Church (BSBC) is seeking a dedicated Administrative and Social Media Assistant to support the ministry and operations of our church for 20 hours per week.

This role involves providing administrative assistance to the pastoral and office staff, managing communications, and overseeing BSBC’s online presence through its website, social media platforms, and weekly e-newsletter. Responsibilities include coordinating volunteer schedules, producing worship service slides, maintaining church databases, and assisting with various office duties. The successful candidate will be organized and tech-savvy.

This position plays a vital role in connecting the congregation and community through digital and in-person communication. Interested individuals should submit their application via email to receptionist@BSBC.nb.ca.

5. SAT Support: Welcome Baskets for Project Zero Pods

A Twelve Neighbours community member on the committee for Project Zero, Marcel LeBrun's pod project for unhoused people in Saint John, is assembling welcome baskets for those who will occupy the pods. She has provided the following list of items that we can contribute. If you feel that you would like to encourage those involved in this way, please deliver the items to Janet or Naomi by Wednesday, July 16. Thank you so much!

What is Project Zero and a Neighbourly Homes pod? Neighbourly Homes would be a fully unmanaged, low-cost, easily deployed transitional housing service in courtyard style communities with 14 individual sleeping units, as well as shared bathrooms and showers. The living units contain a small desk, a single bed and a locking door to allow residents to feel safe. The pop-up communities would have 24/7 access, staffing and wrap-around services. The entire program would be advised under a board of individuals who have experienced homelessness to ensure experience informed decisions. For more information: www.facebook.com/12Neighbours.

If you feel led to support this effort, please drop off your donations at the Church Office by Wednesday, July 16. Thank you for helping to extend care and dignity to those beginning a new chapter!

6. 12 Neighbours Gardening Project: Baby Bushes

Hi Gardeners:

We will be working in and around the gardens at the 12 Neighbours site on Fredericton’s northside on Friday, June 27.

If you have noticed any baby lilac, honeysuckle, rose, or fruit bushes sprouting up under their mature parents, please let Liz Smith (pigotsmith@gmail.com or 506-453-1792) know as we are currently planting in the twelve neighbours community. We can even dig them up and pot them if you like!

Thank you so much!

Liz

7. Summer Ashrams

Don’t miss the opportunity to attend a Christian Ashram! An Ashram is a time for learning, prayer, reflection, fellowship, and rest, focused on deepening one’s relationship with Jesus Christ and cultivating spiritual growth. Come alone or with your family!

Nova Scotia Christian Ashram: July 10-15

New Brunswick Christian Ashram: August 7-10

For more information, please contact Don & Pat Burdon at (506) 471-6051 or Doug & Doris Ashfield at (506) 472-7519.

8. Green Hill Lake Camp

GHLC Share a Wage

Green Hill Lake Camp’s summer program runs with a team of 60 staff, many of whom are students offsetting high education costs. Our Share-A-Wage program helps make it possible for these young people to serve by providing financial support through friends, family, and church communities.

In 2025, our goal is to raise $40,000 to help cover summer employment needs. Gifts are used at the discretion of the GHLC Board to support the ministry and its dedicated staff.

Your gift helps make the summer camp experience accessible and gospel centered. Thank you for considering how you might support our summer staff through Share-A-Wage.

Click the link below to read a letter from our very own Miles Culberson, who is working as a GHLC Leader this summer!

GHLC Sponsorship: Goal Reached!

Summer is here! Our New Life ladies and other church ministries have seven children that would love to go to Green Hill Lake Camp this summer. The cost to send seven children to camp is approximately $5,000.00.

Thanks to your generous giving, we have reached our goal! We have received $6,070.00 for GHLC sponsorships for this summer. Thank you for supporting this opportunity for children to attend camp "where Christ is made known".

GHLC Health Center Donations Needed

Nurse Nancy and Boo Boo (aka Carol Reimer) have placed a tote in the Connection Centre for anyone wishing to donate supplies for the Health Centre.

For First Aid, we are looking for the following:

Band-aids of all sizes and types, tick removal kits, small freezies (for tasty ice packs), medical tape, gauze pads 2x2 and 4x4, gauze rolls, large absorbent dressings, antiseptic wound spray, Moleskin bandages for blisters, sunscreen.

We often have campers arrive without personal hygiene items and like to have a stock of the following:

Travel size shampoo and body wash, facecloths, deodorant, combs, brushes, feminine hygiene items.

The most important thing we want this summer though is your prayers for the health and safety of everyone who comes to Green Hill Lake Camp.

9. Muffin Ministry: Aug 3

On behalf of our brothers and sisters who make a weekly evening trek around the city to visit those sleeping rough, and the members of your Social Action Team, thank you ‘muffin makers’ for your faithfulness serving in this way. Your sweet generosity is more than just baked goods; it’s a tangible expression of care and hope in Jesus’ name.

Our Street Ministry team need muffins as soon as Aug 3 for our Sunday night outreach program. As we prepare for the busy summer months, we’re now aiming to have 4 dozen muffins each week to ensure we’re well-stocked and ready to bless those we serve. If you are able to help in this way, please place 12 muffins, individually wrapped, in a large zipper locked bag, and label the bag “Street Ministry”. Don’t forget to include your name and the delivery date for which you signed up. You can place the labeled muffins in the upright freezer in the main kitchen.

Please click the link below or call the church office (506-458-8348) and our admin team will be pleased to do the online registration for you. Jesus spoke of offering cups of cold water in his name. Muffins, we believe, offer the same opportunity to bless others for Him.

10. Oasis: August 7 to 9

Oasis is the annual gathering of the Canadian Baptists of Atlantic Canada (CBAC), a family of churches spread all over Atlantic Canada. CBAC churches send pastors and delegates to Oasis. Each August, we gather to deepen relationships, build community, learn tools for thriving in ministry, worship together, make decisions around budgets, and vision for the future. OASIS is also a time to celebrate God’s faithfulness and our shared mission.

Our theme this year is “Hope upon Hope”. It is our prayer and hope that you leave OASIS “overflowing with hope”, filled with inspiration, new friendships, and joy leading into the fall season. Join us for the 179th Annual gathering this August. OASIS will take place August 7-9, 2025, on the Acadia University campus in Wolfville, Nova Scotia.

We currently have nine delegates registered. To be a delegate for BSBC, you must be a member of BSBC. Based on our membership, we can send 10 delegates. If you are not a member, you can start the process for membership or you can attend OASIS as a guest. Guests can participate in everything but cannot vote on business. Are you interested in being one of our delegates to OASIS? We are able to provide a stipend of $200 to cover your registration and help with expenses. If you would like to become a member or if you are able to attend, please contact Naomi in the church office (naomi.phillips@bsbc.nb.ca) and she will complete your registration.

In preparation for registration, delegates will be asked to indicate their preferred Breakout Workshops.

Our very own Rev. Ross Watters is leading one of the Oasis Rallies titled “Hope in The Church”.

11. Refugee Update

Dear BSBC family,

Your Social Action Team thanks you for your ongoing support of refugees living in desperate circumstances around the world who are looking to start new lives in Fredericton. We would like to provide you with an update on the progress of the refugee family for whom we submitted a sponsorship application in 2023.

For those who may not be familiar, this family of six is originally from Syria and is currently living as refugees in Lebanon. The family includes a father (49), a mother (38), three sons (20, 18, 4), and a daughter (15). Rachel Nesbitt, a former member of our congregation, befriended their relatives here in Fredericton, which is how we connected with them. Despite the Nesbitt family having moved from Fredericton, Rachel continues to keep in touch with the mother of the family we are sponsoring.

The refugee family in Lebanon continues to wait wearily, after many years in "limbo," hoping for progress on their file and the opportunity to start new lives here in Canada.

We are pleased to share that we have raised a total of $29,927 to support this family during their first year in Canada. Since our church voted at the Annual Business Meeting in 2022 to apply for their sponsorship, over $23,000 has been generously donated by you, our church family. While we do not yet have any updates on their paperwork, we encourage you to continue supporting our refugee fund with gifts designated "Refugee Fund", so that we will have the necessary funds available to cover the first year of living expenses for a family of six in Canada once they receive approval.

We look forward to continuing to share updates on the refugee fund and our sponsorship progress in the coming months. Hopefully, we will soon be able to request your support in furnishing this family with a new home. But for now, we fundraise and wait.

If you have any questions about this, please contact Martina Verboom at adrianandmartina@gmail.com.

16. Adult Bible Studies

There is so much going on at our Church that sometimes it is hard to keep track! To help ease your calendar preparation, here is a brief list of programs and events that we have on offer:

17. This Sunday’s Worship Gatherings: June 29

In the Sanctuary, the worship team will be led by Gloria Tranquilla, with special music from Elaine Durling and Pascale Butt Beaulieu. In the Gym, worship will be led by Greg Keezer. In both services, we will be singing “Oh Canada”.

Pastor Ross will be in the gym. Pastor Ross will be sharing a sermon on Jonah Chapter 4, when God asks, “Is it right for you to be angry?

Dr. Keith Bodner will be in the sanctuary. Of his sermon titled “Annoying.Friend@midnight” he says, “This weekend we’ll start off with a question that most of us can probably answer in the affirmative: have you ever been really annoyed because someone has woken you up in the middle of the night? If that’s something you’ve experienced, then this morning’s message is for you, because that is exactly the subject: once upon a time there was someone sound asleep at midnight, when behold, a good friend showed up and began knocking at his door because he needed three loaves of bread for a visitor who had arrived! Despite a vast amount of irritation, the request was granted in these nocturnal circumstances. Jesus tells this story in Luke 11, and today we will discover some surprising and encouraging applications for our lives as disciples in this particular season.

Whether in-person or online, be sure to join us this Sunday morning at 10:30 am.

18. A Heartfelt Thank You from the Wightman Family

The Wightman family would like to say thank you for all the care and kindness that so many of you have shown us during Rick's illness and since his passing on May 9. Every prayer, card, meal, phone call and visit helped carry us through a very challenging year, and continues to keep us going as the weeks go by. Rick's Celebration of Life was a loving good-bye. The bright coloured clothing was perfect and exactly what Rick wanted. Finally, thank you to those who donated food and looked after the reception, so that we could meet with friends in that familiar setting. Nellie, the "lime ricky" was genius!

With many thanks,

Lori, Jerry, Jake and Dylan Wightman
