2. Volunteers Needed for Church BBQ: June 1

Hi Church Family,

Our annual Church BBQ is just around the corner! We’ve got the bouncy castle and Sno-Cone machine ready to go—it’s going to be a fun-filled day for all ages!

Now, we just need a few helping hands to make it all happen. If you’re able to assist with setup, serving, or clean-up, we’d love to have you on the team.

Specifically, we are looking for help in the following areas:

Morning Setup Crew from 9:00 – 10:00 am: to setup canopies for BBQs and seniors seating, BBQs, tables for serving, Sno-Cone table, tables and chairs for seniors, chairs around the parking lot, and garbage cans.

Kitchen Crew from 9:00 – 10:00 am: to prepare veggie trays, drink coolers, and unwrap hotdogs.

Sno-Cone Crew from 11:05 am – 12:40 pm: to bring supplies out, start processing ice, and serve Sno-Cones.

Bouncy Castle Crew from 11:15 – 12:45 pm: Stand at entrance, using a 3-minute timer, maintain order, prevent crowding, ensure turn-taking, assist children in/out.

Lunch Setup Crew from 11:15 – 11:40 am: to stuff hotdogs, bring out condiments, veggies, potato chips, plates, napkins, cups, and beverages.

Serving Crew from 11:30 am – 12:40 pm: Serve hotdogs and seniors’ tables.

Clean Up Crew from 12:40 pm – 1:30 pm: Start clean up; take down, clean and put away BBQs, tables, chairs, canopies, garbage cans, clean up dishes, kitchen, and parking lot.

If you are willing to serve in this way, please contact Naomi at 506-458-8348 or naomi.phillips@bsbc.nb.ca to give her your availability.

3. WMS The Great Canadian Bible Study: May 21

Join the Women’s Missionary Society for the Great Canadian Bible Study on Wednesday, May 21, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm in the Family Room on the first floor of the Family Life Centre (FLC) for a meaningful time of fellowship and study.

This year’s focus is on the inspiring story of Ruth and Naomi—a beautiful testament to faithfulness, love, and God's providence.

All are welcome!

4. Spring Business Meeting: May 28

Our moderator has called a Spring Business Meeting to be held on Wednesday, May 28, 2025 at 6:45 pm in the sanctuary at Brunswick Street Baptist Church. We will have reports from the Board of Management and the Board of Deacons, as well as updates from Treasurer and the Social Action Team.

To attend this meeting via Zoom, please contact the church office at 506-458-8348 or receptionist@bsbc.nb.ca for the Zoom link.

5. GHLC Sponsorship: New Life and Other Ministries

Spring is coming.......so summer is sure to follow! Our New Life ladies and other church ministries have seven children that would love to go to Green Hill Lake Camp this summer. The cost to send seven children to camp is approximately $5,000.00. If you would like to help make this happen, please mark your envelope, or if you give in another way, please identify your gift with GHLC Camper or Sponsorship.

Thank you for considering supporting this opportunity for children to attend camp "where Christ is made known".

6. GHLC Health Centre Donations Needed

We're in full swing organizing our health and safety supplies as we gear up for an exciting season ahead. With school groups arriving soon for their adventure-filled days and summer camps just around the corner, we're making sure everything is in place to keep everyone safe and well-prepared.

You'll find fully stocked first aid kits at key activity centers across the campsite, workplace-level kits in the maintenance shop and kitchen, and mini kits in each cabin. For our off-site adventures—like canoe and bicycle camps—we’ve packed larger first aid packs to ensure we're ready for anything.

Nurse Nancy and Boo Boo (aka Carol Reimer) have placed a tote in the Connection Center for anyone wishing to donate supplies for the Health Center.

For First Aid, we are looking for the following:

Band-aids of all sizes and types, tick removal kits, small freezies (for tasty ice packs), medical tape, gauze pads 2x2 and 4x4, gauze rolls, large absorbent dressings, antiseptic wound spray, Moleskin bandages for blisters, sunscreen.

We often have campers arrive without personal hygiene items and like to have a stock of the following:

Travel size shampoo & body wash, facecloths, deodorant, combs, brushes, feminine hygiene items.

The most important thing we want this summer though is your prayers for the health and safety of everyone who comes to Green Hill Lake Camp.

7. Boaz Ministries Training – Recognizing Human Trafficking: May 24

Scott Wood from Boaz Ministries will be leading a follow-up training session on the issue of local human trafficking. This important session will take place on Saturday, May 24, from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm at BSBC, in the boardroom above the gymnasium.

10. Oasis: August 7 to 9

Oasis is the annual gathering of the Canadian Baptists of Atlantic Canada (CBAC), a family of churches spread all over Atlantic Canada. CBAC churches send pastors and delegates to Oasis. Each August, we gather to deepen relationships, build community, learn tools for thriving in ministry, worship together, make decisions around budgets, and vision for the future. OASIS is also a time to celebrate God’s faithfulness and our shared mission.

Our theme this year is “Hope upon Hope.” It is our prayer and hope that you leave OASIS “overflowing with hope”, filled with inspiration, new friendships, and joy leading into the fall season. Join us for the 179th Annual gathering this August. OASIS will take place August 7-9, 2025, on the Acadia University campus in Wolfville, Nova Scotia.

To be a delegate for BSBC, you must be a member of BSBC. Based on our membership, we can send 10 delegates. If you are not a member, you can start the process for membership or you can attend OASIS as a guest. Guests can participate in everything but cannot vote on business. Are you interested in being one of our delegates to OASIS? We are able to provide a stipend of $200 to cover your registration and help with expenses. If you would like to become a member or if you are able to attend, please contact Naomi in the church office (naomi.phillips@bsbc.nb.ca) and she will complete your registration.

This helps us keep everyone informed and ensure smooth planning.

Please send your dates to bsbc@bsbc.nb.ca.

Thank you for helping us stay organized!

20. This Sunday’s Worship Gatherings: May 18

In the Sanctuary, the worship team will be led by Gloria Tranquilla and David Steeves with special music from the Sanctuary Choir. In the Gym, the worship team will be led by Greg Keezer.

Dr. Keith will be in the gym and the sanctuary. Of his sermon titled “The Bible in 2 Minutes (or less)” he says, “If one of our neighbors knocked on the door and asked, “Quick, give me the message of the Bible in less than 2 minutes, I might perish at any moment,” how might we respond? As it turns out, there is a remarkable summary of the biblical story, and this passage is so important that is told (in a few different ways) in Matthew, Mark, and Luke! It is often called the parable of the tenants, and it is an episode during the final days of Jesus as he enters the city of Jerusalem on his way to the cross. On this Sunday morning, we will study the episode of the vineyard tenants, and along with an important background text from Isaiah 5, probe how these scenes provide a summary of the larger biblical storyline and the message of the gospel in a very memorable way.”

Whether in-person or online, be sure to join us this Sunday morning at 10:30 am.

21. Pastoral Care

Your Deacons want to affirm that BSBC is equipped to provide Pastoral Care. We are grateful for the engagement of Rev. Ross and Pastor Nikki, and we are blessed to have additional support from Rev. Kevin Culberson, sanctuary Ministry Coordinator and the Baptist Chaplin at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital and Doug McAllister, our Benevolent Coordinator and Senior’s Visitation Pastor.

Here are some suggested approaches:

22. Bereavement

Rick Wightman 1962-2025

The family of Rick Wightman is heartbroken to share his passing on May 9, 2025, at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital in Fredericton, after a courageous year-long battle with pancreatic cancer. Born on December 27, 1962, in Durham, England, Rick was the son of the late Bob and Nancy (Clement) Wightman.

Rick will be dearly missed by his wife Lori (Hay) Wightman and their sons Jerry, Jake, and Dylan, all of Fredericton. He is also survived by his sister Wendy (Gord) Connell, extended family, and a wide circle of loyal friends who stood by him through life’s joys and challenges.

The Wightman family extends heartfelt thanks to Dr. Tim Snell, the DECRH Oncology Clinic, the Extra-Mural nurses, the DECRH Palliative Care Unit, and especially Dr. Gordon McDonald for his compassionate support.

Visitation will be held at McAdam’s Funeral Home on Thursday, May 15, from 2–4 PM and 6–8 PM. A Celebration of Life will follow at Brunswick Street Baptist Church on Friday, May 16, at 2:00 PM. Guests are encouraged to wear bright colours in honour of Rick’s vibrant spirit.

Donations in his memory may be made to the Fredericton Community Kitchen, NB African Association, or a charity of your choice.

Gladys Wilson 1926-2025

Gladys B. Wilson passed away peacefully on January 30, 2025, in Fredericton at the age of 98. A cherished daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Gladys lived a life marked by resilience, love, and service.

Originally from Upper Falmouth, she later settled in Fredericton with her late husband, Reginald. She was predeceased by her daughter Mona Guthrie and several siblings, and is lovingly remembered by her grandchildren Robert (Sheila), Peter (Janet), and James (Tina); great-grandchildren Caleb, Olivia, Annika, Jacqueline, and Dylan; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Gladys worked at the Hart shoe factory and was an active member of the Ladies Auxiliary Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 4. Known for her warmth and generosity, she stayed young at heart through volunteering and time spent with loved ones.

She will be deeply missed. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society are appreciated. A graveside committal service will be held at Fredericton Rural Cemetery on Wednesday, May 28th at 2 pm.
