2. Daylight Savings Time Starts: March 8
Please take note that Daylight Saving Time starts on Sunday, March 8. Don’t forget to set your clocks ahead by one hour before you go to bed on Saturday night.
We’ll all lose an hour of sleep, but we gain a little more evening daylight as we head into spring.
3. Happy Chinese New Year!
As we welcome the Lunar New Year, we join our Chinese congregation in celebrating a season filled with hope, blessing, and new beginnings. This festive time—also known as the Spring Festival—is a moment when families gather, homes are brightened with red decorations symbolizing joy, and people reflect on the past year while looking forward with renewed purpose.
Although traditions vary, themes of gratitude, unity, and renewal are common throughout the celebration. These values resonate deeply with our faith. Just as the New Year represents a fresh start, Scripture reminds us, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” (2 Corinthians 5:17). It is a timely encouragement for us all to embrace the new work God is doing in our lives and in our community.
This year, may the spirit of the season inspire us to seek peace, extend kindness, and celebrate the diverse cultures that enrich our church family. Let us pray for blessings, good health, and God’s guidance in the year ahead. May this new year be filled with joy, hope, and the abundant love of Christ.
4. Annual Business Meeting: TONIGHT!
This important gathering will highlight our ministries, opportunities to serve, and financial direction for 2025. Your participation is essential, as we require a quorum of 75 members for voting.
Before the meeting, join us in the gym at 5:15 pm for a Pizza Potluck! We’ll provide a variety of pizzas, including Meat, Pepperoni, Veggie and Cheese. Please bring a side dish or dessert to share. If you have food intolerances or questions about the potluck, please contact Naomi in the church office at 506-458-8348.
At 6:30 pm, we’ll transition from the gym to the sanctuary to prepare for the start of the ABM. We look forward to seeing you there as we come together to celebrate and plan for the future of our church!
Dr. Calvin Smith, our Moderator, invites the Brunswick Street Baptist Church congregation to attend the Annual Business Meeting (ABM) tonight at 6:45 pm in the sanctuary. To attend online, please contact Naomi at naomi.phillips@bsbc.nb.ca for your Zoom link. In the event of a storm, the meeting will be held on Thursday, February 26, 2026, at 6:45 pm.
A printed copy of the 2025 BSBC Annual Report is now ready! Pick up your paper copy at the Welcome Desks or contact the church office for a digital copy.
5. Proposed Constitution Changes
Introduction
The Board of Management and the Board of Deacons requested the formation of an ad hoc Constitution Committee as outlined in the Constitution. David Brodie (BOM representative and Chair) and Stephen VanSlyke (BOD representative) were named. Requests for changes were received from both Boards. The changes proposed for consideration and acceptance by the Church are summarized in this document. It is the request of the Constitution Committee that the proposed changes come to the Church for approval.
Recommended Changes
#1 Chairs of the Board of Deacons and the Board of Management – The Constitution identifies criteria for the Chairs of both the Board of Deacons and the Board of Management. As recently as this past year, it has been the case that the person God has chosen to chair one of the two Boards has not met the criteria. Scott was a previous member of the Board of Deacons returning for his first year of a subsequent term. A change in wording in a similar situation would allow the Nominating Committee to present the name of the Chair of either Board without having to call a Special Business Meeting to resolve the situation.
CURRENT
6.4.1 The nomination for Chair of the Board of Deacons shall be made to the Annual Business Meeting by the Nominating Committee upon the recommendation of the Board of Deacons. The nominee shall be a member of the Board of Deacons who has served at least two (2) years of the first term of office or at least one (1) year of a subsequent term of office.
PROPOSED
6.4.1 The nomination for Chair of the Board of Deacons shall be made to the Annual Business Meeting by the Nominating Committee upon the recommendation of the Board of Deacons. The nominee shall be a member of the Board of Deacons. The nominee should normally have served at least two (2) years of the first term of office or at least one (1) year of a subsequent term of office.
===========================
CURRENT
6.5.1 The nomination for Chair of the Board of Management shall be made to the Annual Business Meeting by the Nominating Committee upon the recommendation of the Board of Management. The nominee shall be a member of the Board of Management who has served at least two (2) years of the first term of office or at least one (1) year of a subsequent term of office.
PROPOSED
6.5.1 The nomination for Chair of the Board of Management shall be made to the Annual Business Meeting by the Nominating Committee upon the recommendation of the Board of Management. The nominee shall be a member of the Board of Management. The nominee should normally have served at least two (2) years of the first term of office or at least one (1) year of a subsequent term of office.
#2 Lead Pastor – An adjustment was made in 2025 to make the Lead Pastor an ex officio non-voting member of all Teams. It was identified that the Audit Team operates independently of the Boards and reports directly to the Annual Meeting. It was an unintentional oversight to add the Lead Pastor to the Audit Team.
CURRENT
5.2.3 The Lead Pastor shall be an ex officio non-voting member of all Boards, Committees, and Teams.
PROPOSED
5.2.3 The Lead Pastor shall be an ex officio non-voting member of all Boards, Committees, and Teams, with the exception of the Audit Team.
#3 ad hoc Constitution Committee – An adjustment in numbering was required following changes made to the Constitution in 2025. In the change, an article number was missed and incorrectly referenced. It needs to be corrected.
CURRENT
13.4 The ad hoc Constitution Committee shall be comprised of representatives from the Board of Management and the Board of Deacons as specified in 13.5 plus other representatives from Committees and the membership of the Church as deemed relevant.
PROPOSED
13.4 The ad hoc Constitution Committee shall be comprised of representatives from the Board of Management and the Board of Deacons as specified in Article 13.2 plus other representatives from Committees and the membership of the Church as deemed relevant.
6. 2025 Income Tax Receipts
The remaining Income Tax Receipts for 2025 will be mailed out this week. Laura McGuire, our Financial Secretary, will send them via Canada Post. If we do not have a mailing address for you, Laura will keep your receipt on file. If you have any questions, please contact Laura at laura.mcguire@bsbc.nb.ca.
7. A Time to Pray – Season of Lent | Mondays | Starting February 23
The church family is invited to gather in the sanctuary for a dedicated time of prayer throughout the Season of Lent. Beginning Monday, February 23, the sanctuary will be open every Monday evening from 7:30 to 8:30 pm.
All are welcome to come for any portion of the hour. The focus of these gatherings is simply to seek the Lord together in prayer, with space for worship and ministry as the Spirit leads. These weekly prayer times, hosted by Debbie Kierstead, will continue through Lent, concluding on Monday, March 30.
Let this season be marked by drawing near to God in prayer.

12. Volunteering Opportunities
A. Sunday Streets Muffin Ministry: April 5
On behalf of our brothers and sisters who make a weekly evening trek around the city to visit those sleeping rough, and the members of your Social Action Team, thank you ‘muffin makers’ for your faithfulness serving in this way. Your sweet generosity is more than just baked goods; it’s an expression of care and hope in Jesus’ name.
Our Street Ministry team need muffins as soon as April 5 for our Sunday night outreach program. As we prepare for the busy summer months, we aim to have 4 dozen muffins each week to ensure we’re well-stocked and ready to bless those we serve. If you are able to help in this way, please place 12 muffins, individually wrapped, in a large zipper locked bag, and label the bag “Street Ministry”. Don’t forget to include your name and the delivery date for which you signed up. You can place the labeled muffins in the upright freezer in the main kitchen.
Please click the link below or call the church office (506-458-8348) and our admin team will be pleased to do the online registration for you. Jesus spoke of offering cups of cold water in his name. Muffins, we believe, offer the same opportunity to bless others for Him.
