1. Missions Month: Now until November 2
From now until November 2, Missions Month will be led by our Missions Committee here at BSBC. We will take time to focus on the theme of mission found in the Bible as laid out in Acts 1:8, focusing on mission here at home and abroad, concluding in a final blended Celebration Service on November 2.
Here is a look at our themes for our Missions Month Sundays:
Oct. 12 – Local
Oct. 19 – Regional
Oct. 26 – International
Nov. 2 – Celebrating our Diversity of Nations and Cultures
As a Missions Committee we wish to invite people to participate in Scripture Readings or special music/singing in your native tongue during Missions Month as we reflect on both our Mission as the Church and celebrate the Nations already part of our BSBC Family. If you would like to participate, please contact the BSBC Missions Committee by emailing joeltrail@gmail.com.
2. Fall Business Meeting: October 22
Our moderator, Calvin Smith, has called a Fall Business Meeting to be held in the sanctuary on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, at 6:45 pm. Please join us for our Church Family Potluck in the gym at 5:30 pm. Following our Church Family Potluck, we will open our Fall Business meeting at 6:45 pm in the sanctuary. Calvin will prepare an agenda based on reports from the Board of Deacons and the Board of Management, as well as other committees and teams.
The Board of Deacons share the following statement:
Many of our Church members may recall that our Church previously had a full complement of pastors (4.5) to ensure the spiritual and administrative running of BSBC. The positions were Senior Pastor, Associate Pastor, Youth Pastor, Children’s Pastor, and a part time (0.5 position) Seniors Pastor. At present, our Church has two full time pastors and part time contracts for Preaching Pastor, Sanctuary Ministry Coordinator, Benevolent Coordinator, Seniors Visitation Pastor, Children’s Ministry Coordinator, and Choral Director/Organist. The Board of Deacons has unanimously voted to call an Associate Pastor for Connection and Outreach.
As per the constitution, the Board of Deacons has initiated the formation of a Search Committee. This Committee shall be elected at the Fall Business Meeting. The position description for the Associate Pastor of Connection and Outreach will be made available prior to the Fall Business Meeting.
For those members who are unable to attend in person, please contact the church office via email naomi.phillips@bsbc.nb.ca for the zoom meeting link to attend online. We look forward to seeing you there.
The position description for the Associate Pastor for Connection and Outreach is available below.
3. WMS Celebrate Heritage of Quilting: October 17 and 18
Please join the WMS for our Celebrate Heritage of Quilting exhibition in the sanctuary on October 17 and 18. We will be collecting a $5.00 admission fee (cash only), with all proceeds going towards our special mission projects.
Come and enjoy a vibrant display of quilts, big and small, vintage and contemporary, all crafted by local quilters. Alongside the exhibition, some quilts will be available for purchase (information available at the fair) and light refreshments will be served. We invite you to take in the beauty of these quilts while supporting our outreach mission projects. This celebration is hosted by the Women’s Missionary Society of Brunswick Street Baptist Church (BSBC) in the sanctuary. For more information, please contact BSBC at 506-458-8348.
If you have a special quilt that you would like to include in the exhibition, please take a photo of your quilt and, along with a special story or some pattern details, submit it to Shirley Dunfield at vonsad@nbnet.nb.ca.
The WMS is looking for volunteers to help with setup and takedown for the Quilt Fair on Friday, October 17, and Saturday, October 18. No special skills are required—just willing hands and helping hearts! We are also seeking volunteers to assist with event security.
If you’re able to help, please contact Mary McMulkin at 506-260-6527 or email mlmcmulkin@gmail.com.
4. Baptism Sunday: October 26
We are excited to share that our next Baptism Service will take place on Sunday, October 26, in the sanctuary immediately following the morning worship services. Baptism is a beautiful and meaningful step in the life of every believer — a public declaration of faith and a celebration of new life in Christ.
If you have been considering baptism or feel led to take this step, we would love to walk alongside you in this journey. Please speak with one of our pastors or deacons to learn more or to express your interest.
Let’s come together as a church family to support and celebrate those making this important commitment. Thank you, and we look forward to a powerful and joyful time of worship and testimony.
5. Trunk or Treat is Back! Volunteers needed | October 26 | 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm
On Sunday, Oct. 26 from 4:00 to 5:00 pm, we will be hosting our 5th Annual Trunk or Treat event! Please invite your friends and family, whether outside or inside of our church. This community outreach event is open to all!
Cars/Vehicles: We are asking for volunteers who would like to RSVP and then decorate their cars. If you and your family would like to take part in this way, please let Pastor Nikki know by emailing her at nikki@bsbc.nb.ca! If you need ideas for how to decorate your vehicle, Nikki would be happy to send some ideas your way! Please RSVP your car for this event by October 15th.
Candies/Treats: Volunteers of all ages are welcome to be a part of this! If you would like to donate candy or other treats to the church for this event, please bring your goodies to the church office by October 20th. If you know of families who would benefit from attending this event outside or inside of our church, please invite them to this community outreach event! If you have any questions, please contact Pastor Nikki at nikki@bsbc.nb.ca for more details.
Youth Volunteers: We would like all of our youth to be involved with this event. Come dressed up in costumes, help people decorate their cars, transport candies and treats to the decorated vehicles, eat treats, and help lead games.
Thank you for all of your help! For more information, to volunteer or to register your vehicle for this event, please email Pastor Nikki at nikki@bsbc.nb.ca.
6. BSBC Choir Reunion Gathering: November 1
The BSBC Church Choir is excited to host a special Reunion Gathering for all current and former Sanctuary Choir members and their significant others!
Join us on Saturday, November 1, 2025, from 2:00 to 4:00 pm in the Assembly Area on the Third Floor of the Family Life Centre for an afternoon of fellowship, light refreshments, a short program, plenty of reminiscing, and reconnecting with those past and present who are involved in this Music Ministry.
It’s a wonderful opportunity to reconnect, share memories, and celebrate the joy of music ministry together.
We hope you’ll plan to attend!
7. GHLC Farewell for Stephen Alward: Nov 1
You’re invited to an Open House and Farewell Party for Stephen Alward, longtime director of Green Hill Lake Camp.
For decades, Stephen has poured his heart into this ministry — shaping lives, building faith, and creating a place where thousands of young people have encountered the love of Christ. His leadership, vision, and unwavering commitment have left a lasting legacy not only at the camp, but in the hearts of all who’ve served and grown under his care.
This gathering is a chance to say thank you, share memories, and celebrate the incredible impact Stephen has made. Whether you’re a camper, staff member, volunteer, or friend of the camp, we’d love for you to join us in honoring his faithful service. The Open House will be at the camp on Saturday, November 1 from 2:00 to 4:30 pm, with a special presentation in the chapel starting at 3:00 pm.
Come help us celebrate Stephen’s incredible legacy and years of faithful leadership.
8. Thank You, Sandra McMullin!
We extend our heartfelt thanks to Sandra McMullin, a pillar of faith, service, and dedication within our BSBC family. From the moment Sandra joined us as a young woman, she brought with her a spirit of generosity and a heart committed to serving others.
For 60 years, Sandra graced our choir with her voice, lifting spirits and enriching worship. Her 40 years of compassionate service on the Benevolent Committee reflect a life devoted to caring for others. As a founding member of the Margarite Mitten WMS, she helped shape a legacy of outreach and fellowship that continues to bless our community.
Sandra’s contributions extend even further—she has taught Sunday School, nurtured young hearts in faith, and stood alongside others in the Fellowship of Deacons’ Wives (Spouses). Her presence on numerous committees has been marked by wisdom, grace, and unwavering commitment.
On behalf of the Benevolent Committee, we deeply miss your insight and experience, Sandra. Your legacy is woven into the very fabric of our church, and your example continues to inspire us all.
Thank you, Sandra, for a lifetime of faithful service. You are cherished beyond words.
9. Happy 96th Birthday, Robert Ingraham!
On Thursday, October 16, we celebrate a truly remarkable milestone for one of BSBC’s most cherished members. Robert will be turning 96 years young on Thursday.
Robert (Bob) has been part of our church family since 1963 —making him not only one of our oldest members but also one of our longest-serving. Over the decades, he has generously given his time and heart to countless church programs, boards, and committees. His dedication to his Bible Study group for over 30 years speaks volumes about his faith and commitment.
Many of us fondly remember Bob and his beloved wife, Marion, faithfully peeling potatoes and carrots for ALPHA dinners and Seniors' Luncheons—a quiet but powerful act of service that nourished both body and soul.
Though he now joins us online for Sunday services, Bob’s presence continues to be felt deeply within our community. His life is a testament to faithfulness, humility, and love.
Let’s take a moment this week to send Bob our warmest wishes and heartfelt thanks. Happy Birthday, Bob! May your day be filled with peace, joy, and the love of your church family.
10. Volunteering Opportunities
Sunday Streets Muffin Ministry: November 23
On behalf of our brothers and sisters who make a weekly evening trek around the city to visit those sleeping rough, and the members of your Social Action Team, thank you ‘muffin makers’ for your faithfulness serving in this way. Your sweet generosity is more than just baked goods; it’s an expression of care and hope in Jesus’ name.
Our Street Ministry team need muffins as soon as November 23 for our Sunday night outreach program. As we prepare for the busy summer months, we aim to have 4 dozen muffins each week to ensure we’re well-stocked and ready to bless those we serve. If you are able to help in this way, please place 12 muffins, individually wrapped, in a large zipper locked bag, and label the bag “Street Ministry”. Don’t forget to include your name and the delivery date for which you signed up. You can place the labeled muffins in the upright freezer in the main kitchen.
Please click the link below or call the church office (506-458-8348) and our admin team will be pleased to do the online registration for you. Jesus spoke of offering cups of cold water in his name. Muffins, we believe, offer the same opportunity to bless others for Him.
Security Volunteers Needed
Towards the fall we’re seeking dedicated volunteers to help keep our church safe and welcoming on weekday evenings from 6:00 to 9:00 pm starting in September. Your presence makes a real difference — creating a warm, secure space where everyone feels at home. If you’re ready to step up and be part of this vital ministry, reach out to Dan Lutes or call the church office at 506-458-8348 to learn more or sign up.
Tellers Needed
Are you a member of BSBC and looking for a simple yet meaningful way to serve?
We are looking for volunteers to join our Teller Team. This role involves helping count cash, cheques, and debit offerings after the Sunday morning service for just two months a year (about six months apart, such as February and August). The time commitment is about one hour each time, and you’ll be working alongside a small, friendly team.
If you’re interested or have any questions, please contact Andrea Bragdon, Chair of the Nominating Committee, at 506-292-3568 or andreabragdon9@gmail.com
Third Sunday Supper Volunteers
We are currently looking for an individual, family, or group to prepare a meal for our December Supper (December 21). We would be appreciative if you would prayerfully consider helping us on this date.
Looking ahead, we are also planning for 2026 and have many months available for volunteers to provide a meal for our guests. If you would like to learn more or are interested in help with Third Sunday Supper, please reach out to Judy Thompson at 506-238-9903 or email judypaul1088@gmail.com.
Welcoming With Warmth — Join our Ushers & Greeting Team
Every Sunday, the first smiles and handshakes at Brunswick Street Baptist Church come from our Ushers and Greeting Team. These dedicated volunteers set the tone for worship by creating a welcoming atmosphere by greeting members and guests, offering guidance, answering questions, and helping with seating, making BSBC a place where everyone feels they belong.
We are deeply thankful for their servant hearts and faithful presence each week.
If you feel called to be part of this important ministry, we would love to hear from you! Training and support are provided, and you’ll be joining a team that makes a real difference in people’s experience of worship.
If you’re interested and want more information to volunteer in the greeting team in the gym, please connect with Andrea Bragdon at her email: andreabragdon@rogers.com
If you’re interested and want more information to volunteer in the greeting team in the sanctuary, please connect with Stephen VanSlyke the usher chair at his email vanslyke@unb.ca.
“Therefore welcome one another as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God.”
– Romans 15:7

18. Bereavement
Helen “Anne” Dunphy
It is with broken hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved Helen "Anne" Dunphy on October 12, 2025, at Pine Grove Nursing Home.
Born on June 6, 1957, in Fredericton, Anne was the daughter of Jack Dunphy and the late Mildred (Myers) Dunphy. She grew up in Fredericton alongside her loving parents and sisters, Jane and Nancy, and shared a special bond with her grandparents and her beloved Aunt Marina.
Anne had a joyful spirit and a deep love for her family. She will be dearly missed by her father Jack, her sisters Jane (David) Rioux and Nancy (Darryl) Esau, and her nieces and nephews: Elizabeth, Peter, and Matthew Rioux, and Lincoln Esau. She was also a great-aunt to Ella.
Anne found great joy in her work placements through Jobs Unlimited, where she easily made friends and spent many happy hours. She enjoyed family gatherings, attending church, listening to music, and spending summers at the cottage. Anne was known for her jokes, her generous nature, and her ever-present peppermints.
