1. Thanksgiving Letter from Pastor’s Office
Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord; let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation. Let us come before him with thanksgiving and extol him with music and song. For the Lord is the great God, the great King above all gods. In his hand are the depths of the earth, and the mountain peaks belong to him. The sea is his, for he made it, and his hands formed the dry land. Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the Lord our Maker; for he is our God and we are the people of his pasture, the flock under his care.
Psalm 95: 1 - 7
Personally, I am finding coming into Thanksgiving this year a bit strange. As we look around the world, just beyond our borders and even closer to home, it is almost impossible not to notice how divided, tense, polarizing and just plain tough things feel right now. And yet…
This is where I find myself this year as I pray and ponder with Thanksgiving on the horizon, in this ‘and yet…’ atmosphere. It is so incredibly important to remember that gratitude and thanksgiving are not simply just a good way to behave. They are a way of seeing the world through the lens of God’s goodness. As the psalmist reminds us:
Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever.
Psalm 107:1
Our thanksgiving flows and is given, not because every circumstance feels great or works out, but because God’s character is unchanging, and His love endures forever! That is where our focus needs to be, as the proverb says:
We don’t thank God because life is always good.
We thank Him because He is always good.

When we pause to give thanks, we reorient our hearts. Instead of dwelling on what we lack or fear, we recognize the countless mercies already given: breath in our lungs, daily bread, the beauty of creation, the gift of community, friends and family, and above all, salvation through Jesus Christ. Gratitude opens our eyes to see that even in hardship, God is present, shaping us and working for our good. As theologian Francis Frangipane explains:
The thankful heart sees the best part of every situation. It sees problems and weaknesses as opportunities, struggles as refining, and sins as forgiveness.

I would suggest that true gratitude is active—it moves us to worship, to share generously, and to trust God more deeply, despite what our circumstances may actually be. As Paul reminds us:
In everything give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
1 Thessalonians 5:18
Gratitude, then, is both our response and our witness. It tells the world: no matter what comes, we belong to a good and faithful God, and we choose to trust Him, not despite the evidence, but because of what He has already done, and what He is yet to do.
So, this thanksgiving season, I encourage you afresh to choose gratitude, remind yourself of the truth, reflect on who God is and live in hopeful expectation of what is to come by the power and in filling of His Spirit in your life! We do this so that we can look at the world, hear the news, see the difficulties, and in the face of it all, choose to love. We can choose to give and choose to hope. We can live this way because we know, that although it can be so easy to get lost in the suffering of this World, we live in the ‘and yet…’
And yet our God is still working out His plans and purposes. May we live in this eternal hope.

2. Thanksgiving Offering 2025
As we gather in gratitude this Thanksgiving season, we invite you to prayerfully consider giving a special offering to help us meet our budget goals for the year. Your generosity enables us to continue the vital ministries and outreach that bless our church and community. Every gift, no matter the size, makes a meaningful impact. Our goal for the 2025 Thanksgiving Offering is $9,000 above our congregation’s normal pattern of giving. Thank you for being part of what God is doing through our congregation.

3. Truth and Reconciliation Sunday: September 28
This Sunday, September 28, we will be having a combined service in the Sanctuary as we celebrate Truth and Reconciliation Sunday together. We encourage you to join us in the Sanctuary wearing an orange 'Every Child Matters' shirt if you can. These shirts are a wonderful visible sign of our support, awareness and participation in Truth and Reconciliation here at BSBC. Many local businesses and stores have these shirts available and thank you for considering this simple and yet powerful way to display our awareness and care.
Please note that the church office will be closed on Tuesday, September 30th. The church office will re-open on Wednesday, October 1st, at 8:30 am.
4. Ministry Fair
This Sunday, September 28, we will be hosting the BSBC Ministry Fair in the gym following our blended service. This is a great opportunity for all to get an inside look at the many programs and ministries happening in our church.
From children’s and youth ministries to Bible studies, prayer groups, missions, music, outreach, and more, you’ll be able to explore how God is at work at BSBC. Come meet ministry leaders, ask questions, and discover where your gifts and passions can connect.
Whether you’re looking to get involved, grow in your faith, or simply learn more about the life of our church family, the Ministry Fair is the perfect place to start.
All are welcome, don’t miss it!
5. Fall Business Meeting
Our moderator, Calvin Smith, has called a Fall Business Meeting to be held in the sanctuary on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, at 6:45 pm. Please join us for our Church Family Potluck in the gym at 5:30 pm. Following our Church Family Potluck, we will open our Fall Business meeting at 6:45 pm in the sanctuary. Calvin will prepare an agenda based on reports from the Board of Deacons and the Board of Management, as well as other committees and teams.
The Board of Deacons share the following statement:
Many of our Church members may recall that our Church previously had a full complement of pastors (4.5) to ensure the spiritual and administrative running of BSBC. The positions were Senior Pastor, Associate Pastor, Youth Pastor, Children’s Pastor, and a part time (0.5 position) Seniors Pastor. At present, our Church has two full time pastors and part time contracts for Preaching Pastor, Sanctuary Ministry Coordinator, Benevolent Coordinator, Seniors Visitation Pastor, Children’s Ministry Coordinator, and Choral Director/Organist. The Board of Deacons has unanimously voted to call an Associate Pastor for Community Connection.
As per the constitution, the Board of Deacons has initiated the formation of a Search Committee. This Committee shall be elected at the Fall Business Meeting. The position description for the Associate Pastor will be made available prior to the Fall Business Meeting.

6. Update from the Board of Deacon
A few updates from the Board of Deacons:
The Board of Deacons look forward to serving you with our new Communion element format beginning October. For more details, see Article 6: Communion Elements.
An exciting time is happening with our Youth Group. On Thursdays, the format is now a Drop-In at 4:45 pm, Supper from 5:00 to 5:30 pm (Good food and Great conversations), Bible Study from 5:30 to 6:15 pm (Diving into God’s Word), and Youth Group from 6:30 to 8:00 pm (Have fun! Hangout together!).
How blessed we are to have witnessed the 10-year anniversary celebration of our Chinese Congregation on Saturday, 23 August. God is faithful and is moving in our midst.
To ensure our hearts are ever humble and soft before God, the Family Room will continue to be used as a Prayer room on Sunday mornings (9:45 to 10:15 am). All are welcome to enter into a time of corporate prayer.
May we offer Praise and thanks to our God for prompting the hearts of 11 folks that have entered the waters of baptism since the first of the year. Four additional candidates have requested to be baptised which will happen soon.
7. Communion Element
Over the past few months, the Board of Deacons has discussed how to be respectful to our environment and being sensitive to how communion is served to those with health concerns. We were unable to source compostable packaging and opted to revert to using our past technique of bread and juice being individually removed from a tray at separate passings. Gluten-free, pre-packaged elements will be made available for pick up prior to the for those with health concerns. Please speak with a member of the greeting team for details. The Board of Deacons look forward to serving you with this new format beginning October.
8. Thank you, Louise Billing – Expression of Appreciation
When we resumed in-person services during the pandemic, Louise Billings faithfully stepped forward to coordinate the essential screening process. Since then, she has continued to bless our church family through her ministry of greeting in the sanctuary.
Louise’s warm smile, gracious welcome, and genuine care have helped people feel at home, whether they were walking through our doors for the very first time or returning as long-standing members of our community. She has not only extended hospitality but also built connections, guided people practically, and linked many with Sunday morning ministries.
Now, as Louise steps back from her role in coordinating greeters, we want to pause and say a heartfelt thank you for the gift of her ministry. Her presence has made a lasting impact on our church family.

9. Congratulations, Grace!
We’re excited to share that Grace Sun, a member of our Chinese congregation, has joined our staff team as a Children’s Ministry Support Worker here at BSBC! Please join us in celebrating with her and praying for God’s blessing as she steps into this new role of service within our church family.
10. Thank You from the Milburn Family
Paul Milburn and family would like to express their appreciation to the staff and members of BSBC for their prayers and words of comfort during the recent passing of Paul’s mother, Alice Mae Milburn. We were blessed by her full and faithful life, as well as your sincere expressions of sympathy.
11. Trunk or Treat is Back! Volunteers needed | October 26th | 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm
On Sunday, Oct. 26 from 4:00 to 5:00 pm, we will be hosting our 5th Annual Trunk or Treat event! Please invite your friends and family, whether outside or inside of our church. This community outreach event is open to all!
Cars/Vehicles: We are asking for volunteers who would like to RSVP and then decorate their cars. If you and your family would like to take part in this way, please let Pastor Nikki know by emailing her at nikki@bsbc.nb.ca! If you need ideas for how to decorate your vehicle, Nikki would be happy to send some ideas your way! Please RSVP your car for this event by October 15th.
Candies/Treats/Drinks: Volunteers of all ages are welcome to be a part of this! If you would like to donate candy or other treats to the church for this event, please bring your goodies to the church office by October 20th. If you know of families who would benefit from attending this event outside or inside of our church, please invite them to this community outreach event! If you have any questions, please contact Pastor Nikki at nikki@bsbc.nb.ca for more details.
Youth Volunteers: We would like all of our youth to be involved with this event. There will be options to get dressed up in costumes, help people decorate their cars, transport candies, treats, and drinks to the decorated vehicles, eat/drink many treats, and help lead games.

12. Kids Sing Fall Start Up
Get Ready for KIDS SING!
On Sundays from 9:00 to 9:30 am in the church choir room, all kids in Grades 3 to 8 who enjoy singing are invited to join this fun and uplifting music ministry!
With Mr. David Steeves you will:
• Learn to read choral music and develop vocal skills
• Be part of a group that will share special music during Sunday services occasionally.

13. Third Sunday Supper
Third Sunday Supper has been such a blessing, with 45 to 50 guests joining us each month! We are so thankful for the faithful volunteers who prepare and serve delicious homemade meals. These evenings are more than just supper—they are a time of fellowship as real connections are made through these meals. Many of our guests return month after month and we also see new faces. Everyone seems to really enjoy their evening with us as they leave with full hearts as well as full stomachs!
We are currently looking for an individual, family, or group to prepare a meal for our Supper in December (December 21). We would be appreciative if you would prayerfully consider helping us on this date.

14. Women’s Mission Society: Celebrate Heritage of Quilting
Please join the WMS for our Celebrate Heritage of Quilting exhibition in the sanctuary on October 17 and 18. We will be collecting a $5.00 admission fee (cash only), with all proceeds going towards our special mission projects.
Come and enjoy a vibrant display of quilts, big and small, vintage and contemporary, all crafted by local quilters. Alongside the exhibition, some quilts will be available for purchase (information available at the fair) and light refreshments will be served. We invite you to take in the beauty of these quilts while supporting our outreach mission projects. This celebration is hosted by the Women’s Missionary Society of Brunswick Street Baptist Church (BSBC) in the sanctuary. For more information, please contact BSBC at 506-458-8348.

The WMS is looking for volunteers to help with setup and takedown for the Quilt Fair on Friday, October 17, and Saturday, October 18. No special skills are required—just willing hands and helping hearts! We are also seeking volunteers to assist with event security.

15. Harvest for the Hungry 2025
Fall is here, and once again we have the opportunity to share God’s love with those in need, both within our church family and across the Greater Fredericton area.
Harvest for the Hungry, a ministry of our Social Action Team, invites our BSBC family to bring non-perishable food and household items to the church over the next four weeks. These donations will be shared between our New Life Ministry (supporting families who struggle to ‘make ends meet’) and the Greener Village Fredericton Food Bank.
Here are the specific requests from our New Life Ministry:

Packaged items for kid’s lunches

We invite you to bring your ‘harvest’ to the Connections Centre on or before Thanksgiving on Sunday, 12th October, where it will be collected and ultimately distributed.
As an alternative, you can make a financial donation to the project by simply designating your gift to “Harvest for the Hungry." Financial donations allows us the opportunity of purchasing the much needed items in bulk at a reduced cost. After Thanksgiving, these financial gifts will be divide evenly between the New Life ministry and Greener Village.
Thank you for making Christ’s love known through your cheerful giving and may God use our ‘harvest’ for His glory!

Social Action Committee
16. Missions Month: October 12 to November 2
This year from Oct 12 to Nov 2, we will have our Missions Month led by our Missions Committee here at BSBC. We will take time to focus on the theme of mission found in the Bible as laid out in Acts 1:8, focusing on mission here at home and abroad, concluding in a final blended Celebration Service on November 2nd.
As a Missions Committee we wish to invite people to participate in Scripture Readings or special music/singing in your native tongue during Missions Month as we reflect on both our Mission as the Church and celebrate the Nations already part of our BSBC Family. 17. DivorceCare
If you or someone you know is experiencing marital separation, divorce, or a long-term relationship breakup, we invite you to join our 13-week DivorceCare program on Tuesdays at 6:30 pm in the Family Room. Each week features expert video insights and supportive discussions to help you move from hurting to healing and provides encouragement to participants led by DivorceCare Team leaders. With each session standing on its own you can join anytime during the program.

18. Volunteering Opportunities
Sunday Streets Muffin Ministry: October 5
The Sunday Street Muffin Ministry needs you!
On behalf of our brothers and sisters who make a weekly evening trek around the city to visit those sleeping rough, and the members of your Social Action Team, thank you ‘muffin makers’ for your faithfulness serving in this way. Your sweet generosity is more than just baked goods; it’s an expression of care and hope in Jesus’ name.
Our Street Ministry team need muffins as soon as October 5 for our Sunday night outreach program. As we prepare for the busy summer months, we aim to have 4 dozen muffins each week to ensure we’re well-stocked and ready to bless those we serve. If you are able to help in this way, please place 12 muffins, individually wrapped, in a large zipper locked bag, and label the bag “Street Ministry”. Don’t forget to include your name and the delivery date for which you signed up. You can place the labeled muffins in the upright freezer in the main kitchen.

Security Volunteers Needed
Towards the fall we’re seeking dedicated volunteers to help keep our church safe and welcoming on weekday evenings from 6:00 to 9:00 pm starting in September. Your presence makes a real difference — creating a warm, secure space where everyone feels at home. Tellers Needed
Are you a member of BSBC and looking for a simple yet meaningful way to serve?
We are looking for volunteers to join our Teller Team. This role involves helping count cash, cheques, and debit offerings after the Sunday morning service for just two months a year (about six months apart, such as February and August). The time commitment is about one hour each time, and you’ll be working alongside a small, friendly team.

Every Sunday, the first smiles and handshakes at Brunswick Street Baptist Church come from our Ushers and Greeting Team. These dedicated volunteers set the tone for worship by creating a welcoming atmosphere by greeting members and guests, offering guidance, answering questions, and helping with seating, making BSBC a place where everyone feels they belong.
We are deeply thankful for their servant hearts and faithful presence each week.

19. NextGen Ministry (Children & Youth)
Children @ BSBC
KidzTown and Preschool | Sundays | 10:45 to 11:30 am
Kids! Join us Sunday morning in the worship services. At 10:45 am, our KidzTown and Preschool leaders will collect children from the gym, stop in at the Connections Centre to collect children from the sanctuary and take them to their designated program areas. Preschool children will be taken to the nursery and children from Kindergarten to Grade 5 will be taken to the second floor for KidzTown Ministries during the church service (10:45 to 11:30 am). Our children will enjoy a time of teaching, games, worship, and crafts. For more information, please reach out to Sam Essel at sam.essel@bsbc.nb.ca.
Sunday School | Sundays | 9:30 am to 10:15 am
We offer Sunday school on Sundays before service from 9:30 am to 10:15 am. There is a place for all those from pre-kindergarten to 18 years old! This is an intentional time for kids and youth to grow deeper in their understanding of the Bible.
Scouts | Wednesdays | 6:00 to 9:00 pm
This program offers fun activities with an emphasis on outdoor adventure and community service projects, in a Christ centered environment.
6:00 to 7:30 pm, regular meeting for boys ages 5 to 10 years, start in Fellowship Hall, finish in gym.
7:30 to 9:00 pm, regular meeting for boys ages 11 to 14 years, meet in the gym.
Registration cost for the year is $40.00 per boy.

Greenhouse Band Practice | Wednesdays | 6:15 to 7 pm
Join us Wednesdays from 6:15 pm (after potluck) to around 7:00 pm! This is open to middle and high school students with a beginner to intermediate understanding of music who want to grow their skills on instruments or vocals in a worship team setting.
We’ll also be training students to run the soundboard and work with sound equipment. It’s a fun and encouraging time of learning, growing, and worshipping together! For more information reach out to Julianne Moore at julianne.d.moore@gmail.com.
High School Greenhouse Band Practice | Wednesdays | 7:15 to 8 pm
This practice time on Wednesdays from 7:15 to 8:00 pm is open to all high school students! You can join the first rehearsal, both rehearsals, or just this later session — whatever works best for you.
We’ll continue to develop skills in instrumentation, vocals, and soundboard operation, while also growing in our understanding of worship leadership through scripture and prayer. For more information reach out to Julianne Moore at julianne.d.moore@gmail.com.
Greenhouse Service | This Sunday September 28 | 10:45 to 11:30 am
We will be starting our morning off in the sanctuary for the combined worship service this Sunday, then we will move to the third floor for a youth-specific service. Fredericton Youth Rally (FYR) | October 17 | 6:00 to 8:30 pm
Coming up in October is the Fredericton youth rally! This is where the youth of Fredericton come together to worship Jesus under one roof. This year the FYR will be hosted at Hope City Church. Cost is $10.00 per student. If you want to come to the FYR or have questions about the FYR, please contact Pastor Nikki at nikki@bsbc.nb.ca.
Volunteer Opportunity: Trunk or Treat | Sunday, October 26 | 3:00 to 5:30 pm
Coming up on October 26th is our annual Trunk or Treat event, from 4:00 to 5:00 pm. Set up will start at 3:00 pm. We would like all of our youth to be involved by volunteering at this event. Come dressed up in costumes, help people decorate their cars, transport candies, treats, and drinks to the decorated vehicles, and help lead games. What if we Prayed? Shirt Campaign: November 5
On November 5th, we are launching this city-wide evangelism effort encouraging youth across Fredericton to wear the same shirt that has “Philippians 4:6-7” on the front and “What if we Prayed?” with a massive QR code on their back. Due to an incredible donor all these shirts are FREE, and this vision is coming to life.
When scanned it will lead to www.whatifweprayed.ca. Monthly follow-up dates will continue this movement. We’re starting with 400 shirts, praying they’re all worn that day. If you want to be a part of this movement, of making Jesus known in your school, and actively praying for others within your school, register via the QR Code or the link to receive your T-Shirt prior to November 4th.

20. Fresh Start Young Adults: Tuesdays
Our Young Adults ministry, Fresh Start, will meet on Tuesdays, from 7:00 to 9:00 pm, on the 3rd floor of the Family Life Center. Come along for some fun, snacks and social time followed by a Bible study. We would love to see you there!

22. This Sunday’s Worship Gatherings: September 28
Join us this Sunday for a combined worship service in the sanctuary. The worship team will be led by Greg Keezer with special music from the Sanctuary Choir.
Dr. Keith Bodner will be sharing a devotional on the theme of Truth and Reconciliation. Of his sermon he says, “On this important day on our national calendar, we at Brunswick Street recognize that a commitment to social justice requires continuous effort and repentance. We also acknowledge that all of our efforts should be rooted in the message of gospel, and on this Sunday morning we will explore the well-known parable of the Samaritan in the book of Luke. On the one hand, many details of the story are familiar: an unknown traveler falls into the hands of thieves and is left for dead on the side of the road, and receives mercy from an unlikely source. On the other hand, there are other details that are worthy of a closer look, not least the larger context: rather than out of the blue, this story about bitter enemies is shared in the context of a debate between Jesus and an expert in the law, and that makes a difference to how we hear the parable. Altogether, this story expands the boundaries of mercy and encourages us to apply the various details to our individual and collective journey of discipleship at this particular moment in time.”

Your Deacons want to affirm that BSBC is equipped to provide Pastoral Care. We are grateful for our pastors, Rev. Ross and Pastor Nikki, and we are blessed to have additional support from Doug McAllister, our Benevolent Coordinator and Senior’s Visitation Pastor and Rev. Kevin Culberson, our Sanctuary Ministry Coordinator and the Baptist Chaplain at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital.

David Clark
Please keep the Clark family in your thoughts and prayers. David Clark—beloved husband to Alfie and devoted father to Josh and Sandy—passed away suddenly on Monday, September 22, 2025. David was a long-time member of BSBC, teacher, advocate for Bible literacy, always up for a lively conversation and a great listener. David was humble in his desire to know more about God and generously shared his knowledge. His absence leaves a deep ache in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
A Celebration of Life will be held in David’s honor on Friday, October 3, 2025, at 2:00 pm at Brunswick Street Baptist Church. Funeral arrangements are being cared for by McAdams Funeral Home. An obituary will be shared soon.
Let’s surround Alfie, Josh, and Sandy with love and support during this difficult time.
Clifford Glendon Smith
The family of Clifford Glendon Smith announces his peaceful passing at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital on September 16, 2025.
Clifford is survived by his wife of 54 years, Audrey Smith; his daughter, Catherine Hogan; his three granddaughters, Ashley, Carlie, and Heidi Hogan and their father, David Hogan; his sisters-in-law, Jocelyn and Judy Graham; nephews, Paul and Daryl Graham (Stacie); nieces, Beverly Crouse (Ken) and Lori Graham, as well as many cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Clifford was devoted to his faith and was a regular attendee at Brunswick Street Baptist Church.
Final arrangements were entrusted to the Oromocto Funeral Home. A family graveside service was held on Tuesday, September 23, 2025.
