1. Annual Business Meeting: Wednesday, February 25
Dr. Calvin Smith, our Moderator, invites the Brunswick Street Baptist Church congregation to attend the Annual Business Meeting (ABM) on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at 6:45 pm in the sanctuary. To attend online, please contact Naomi at naomi.phillips@bsbc.nb.ca for your Zoom link. In the event of a storm, the meeting will be held on Thursday, February 26, 2026, at 6:45 pm.
A printed copy of the 2025 BSBC Annual Report is now ready! Pick up your paper copy at the Welcome Desks or contact the church office for a digital copy.
This important gathering will highlight our ministries, opportunities to serve, and financial direction for 2025. Your participation is essential, as we require a quorum of 75 members for voting.
Before the meeting, join us in the gym at 5:15 pm for a Pizza Potluck! We’ll provide a variety of pizzas, including Meat, Works, Veggie and Cheese. Please bring a simple dessert or side salad to share. If you have food intolerances or questions about the potluck, please contact Naomi in the church office at 506-458-8348.
At 6:30 pm, we’ll transition from the gym to the sanctuary to prepare for the start of the ABM. We look forward to seeing you there as we come together to celebrate and plan for the future of our church!
2. Proposed Constitution Changes
Introduction
The Board of Management and the Board of Deacons requested the formation of an ad hoc Constitution Committee as outlined in the Constitution. David Brodie (BOM representative and Chair) and Stephen VanSlyke (BOD representative) were named. Requests for changes were received from both Boards. The changes proposed for consideration and acceptance by the Church are summarized in this document. It is the request of the Constitution Committee that the proposed changes come to the Church for approval.
Recommended Changes
#1 Chairs of the Board of Deacons and the Board of Management – The Constitution identifies criteria for the Chairs of both the Board of Deacons and the Board of Management. As recently as this past year, it has been the case that the person God has chosen to chair one of the two Boards has not met the criteria. Scott was a previous member of the Board of Deacons returning for his first year of a subsequent term. A change in wording in a similar situation would allow the Nominating Committee to present the name of the Chair of either Board without having to call a Special Business Meeting to resolve the situation.
CURRENT
6.4.1 The nomination for Chair of the Board of Deacons shall be made to the Annual Business Meeting by the Nominating Committee upon the recommendation of the Board of Deacons. The nominee shall be a member of the Board of Deacons who has served at least two (2) years of the first term of office or at least one (1) year of a subsequent term of office.
PROPOSED
6.4.1 The nomination for Chair of the Board of Deacons shall be made to the Annual Business Meeting by the Nominating Committee upon the recommendation of the Board of Deacons. The nominee shall be a member of the Board of Deacons. The nominee should normally have served at least two (2) years of the first term of office or at least one (1) year of a subsequent term of office.
===========================
CURRENT
6.5.1 The nomination for Chair of the Board of Management shall be made to the Annual Business Meeting by the Nominating Committee upon the recommendation of the Board of Management. The nominee shall be a member of the Board of Management who has served at least two (2) years of the first term of office or at least one (1) year of a subsequent term of office.
PROPOSED
6.5.1 The nomination for Chair of the Board of Management shall be made to the Annual Business Meeting by the Nominating Committee upon the recommendation of the Board of Management. The nominee shall be a member of the Board of Management. The nominee should normally have served at least two (2) years of the first term of office or at least one (1) year of a subsequent term of office.
#2 Lead Pastor – An adjustment was made in 2025 to make the Lead Pastor an ex officio non-voting member of all Teams. It was identified that the Audit Team operates independently of the Boards and reports directly to the Annual Meeting. It was an unintentional oversight to add the Lead Pastor to the Audit Team.
CURRENT
5.2.3 The Lead Pastor shall be an ex officio non-voting member of all Boards, Committees, and Teams.
PROPOSED
5.2.3 The Lead Pastor shall be an ex officio non-voting member of all Boards, Committees, and Teams, with the exception of the Audit Team.
#3 ad hoc Constitution Committee – An adjustment in numbering was required following changes made to the Constitution in 2025. It the change, an article number was missed and incorrectly referenced. It needs to be corrected.
CURRENT
13.4 The ad hoc Constitution Committee shall be comprised of representatives from the Board of Management and the Board of Deacons as specified in 13.5 plus other representatives from Committees and the membership of the Church as deemed relevant.
PROPOSED
13.4 The ad hoc Constitution Committee shall be comprised of representatives from the Board of Management and the Board of Deacons as specified in Article 13.2 plus other representatives from Committees and the membership of the Church as deemed relevant.

11. Volunteering Opportunities
A. Sunday Streets Muffin Ministry: March 1
On behalf of our brothers and sisters who make a weekly evening trek around the city to visit those sleeping rough, and the members of your Social Action Team, thank you ‘muffin makers’ for your faithfulness serving in this way. Your sweet generosity is more than just baked goods; it’s an expression of care and hope in Jesus’ name.
Our Street Ministry team need muffins as soon as March 1 for our Sunday night outreach program. As we prepare for the busy winter months, we aim to have 4 dozen muffins each week to ensure we’re well-stocked and ready to bless those we serve. If you are able to help in this way, please place 12 muffins, individually wrapped, in a large zipper locked bag, and label the bag “Street Ministry”. You can place the labeled muffins in the upright freezer in the main kitchen. Don’t forget to include your name and the delivery date for which you signed up.
Please click the link below or call the church office (506-458-8348) and our admin team will be pleased to do the online registration for you. Jesus spoke of offering cups of cold water in his name. Muffins, we believe, offer the same opportunity to bless others for Him.

15. This Sunday’s Worship Gatherings: February 8
In the sanctuary, the worship team will be led by Gloria Tranquilla and David Steeves with special music from Yvonne Kershaw, Peter & Maureen Steeves, and sanctuary choir. In the gym, the worship team will be led by Greg Keezer.
Dr. Keith Bodner will be preaching in the gym. Of this sermon, he says; “At the outset of a new year, we are continuing our short series called ‘Quantum Growth,’ illustrating for us that from the smallest seeds of God’s word in our lives, exponential growth is possible through the power of the Holy Spirit. Proverbially, the ‘mustard seed’ was barely visible, and yet Jesus uses it to underscore such divine potential: ‘The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed that someone took and planted in his field; it is the smallest of all the seeds, but when it has grown it is the greatest of garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and make nests in its branches’ (Matt. 13:32). This week we will switch up the metaphor and focus instead on a breadcrumb, as we venture to the far north—toward the infamous city of Tyre well known for its wealth and political influence—where there is an astonishing interaction between Jesus and an unnamed character with a serious problem in Mark 7:24-31, an episode that features both a jarring parable and host of applications for our lives today.”
Pastor Ross Watters will be preaching in the sanctuary. Of his sermon titled “Signs of Life - Excretion”, he says, “Join us this Sunday as we continue our sermon series, Signs of Life, this week engaging with the theme of excretion. Living things don’t just take in—they also have to let go. As followers of Jesus, equipped by His grace, we have to learn to release what is toxic, unnecessary, or no longer life-giving. If a body cannot excrete what is toxic, it becomes poisoned. In the same way, a believer who only takes in but never lets go becomes spiritually unhealthy. This Sunday we are going to look at the necessity of letting go, Biblical guidance on how and why, and engage again with what it means to be fully alive in Christ.”
Whether in-person or online, be sure to join us this Sunday morning at 10:30 am.
16. Pastoral Care 2026
Your Deacons want to affirm that BSBC is equipped to provide Pastoral Care. We are grateful for the engagement of Rev. Ross and Pastor Nikki. We are blessed to have additional support from Rev. Kevin Culberson, sanctuary Ministry Coordinator and the Baptist Chaplain at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital and Doug McAllister, our Benevolent Coordinator and Senior’s Visitation Pastor. We are equally blessed to have Cheryl Gibson and Roz Thompson, our Parish Nurses.

Hospitalizations
Your pastors will only know of hospitalizations if the church office or individual pastors are contacted directly
We’d appreciate you notifying the office if you know of the hospitalization of a member of the BSBC family
Critical Incident
If a pastor is needed in an emergency situation, between Monday to Friday, 8:30 am and 4 pm, please contact the church office
Outside of office hours, please contact a pastor directly
Bereavement
Rev. Ross and Rev. Kevin will be available to support families at a time of loss, to conduct funeral and committal services
Contact the church office during office hours, Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 4 pm
Outside of office hours, please contact a pastor directly
We have provided McAdams, Bishops, and York Funeral Homes with the contact information for both Rev. Ross and Rev. Kevin
If you are not a member of a bereaved family but know of a death within the BSBC family, please contact the church office to make sure your pastors are aware of the need
Parish Nurses
The parish nursing ministry is intended to support and strengthen the spiritual, physical and emotional well-being of individuals, families, and the congregation at BSBC. Roz Thompson and Cheryl Gibson, your parish nurses, collaborate with members of the pastoral team promoting health and faith, to facilitate the healing of the body, mind, and spirit.
